Dandana is Arab Theatre Studio’s homegrown Arabic music ensemble experimenting in classical and contemporary Arabic music performance.

Dandana (meaning ‘to jam or to strum a few notes’) experiments in classical and contemporary Arabic music performance. The group’s artistic director and coordinator is vocalist Maissa Alameddine. The ensemble features one of Australia’s renowned musicians, Maestro Mohammed Lelo, with Hussein Kahil, Fethi Rabhi, Waleed Barghouti, Hassan Izeldin, Yacine Rabhi and Mustafa Tayar.

Dandana’s debut public performance was in May 2019, when vocals and music created counterpoints with the contemporary Arab Australian poetry of Omar Sakr. The ensemble continues to grow and take shape within Sydney’s Arabic and contemporary music scene.
